My
canine career started at PAWS animal shelter in 1989. My desire to
understand dogs and help them get into permanent homes sparked my
interest in canine behavior. In 1992, I went through the Academy of
Canine Behavior Apprenticeship Program. I also started working for
them as a class instructor as well as an instructor for their 'board
and train' program. Continuing as a volunteer at PAWS, I helped start
their 'behavior help line'. I also helped train staff and volunteers
on canine behavior. |

I started
Caren's Canine Counseling in 1998 providing in-home private lessons
and group classes. I've been a member of the Association of Pet Dog
Trainers since 1993 and became certified as a pet dog trainer through
the APDT in 2002. I continue learning through my students, both humans
and canines, as well as attending seminars and conferences. I recently
became an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator also. |

I currently
live with a sweet old Australian Shepherd named Autumn, and a playful
young Border Collie named Flint. Other members of our family include
three cats and a husband! |

| My training
philosophy:
My goal with all
my clients is to improve the relationship between human and canine.
I think the best way to accomplish this is to give the human a better
understanding of their canine companion. Once humans have a better
understanding of how dogs think and learn, they can then communicate
more effectively with their canine counterparts. |
